Face Beauty Tips Biography

Years ago, Lee O’Brien brought in a skincare brand to South Africa and although she believed in this brand, it took our market a while to also believe in her vision – the brand I am talking about is Dermalogica! Since then she sold Dermalogica and is now introducing South Africa to yet another cutting-edge line of professional skincare and equipment, called Bio-Therapeutic. We chat to her about this new exciting range and she shares some beauty tips with us.

1. You are known for your commitment to uplift the beauty industry through education and cutting-edge products. What are you currently working on?
During our time running Dermalogica in Spain we found the Bio-Therapeutic brand and applied for the licenses for Spain and South Africa. “BT” as we call it, is a world leader in skin care equipment. After 6 years in Spain we decided to move back home to SA as we missed our culture and the people. I knew that BT would be well received here as the therapists and skin centre owners are very highly qualified and professional.

2. Tell us more about the Bio-Therapeutic.
This product uses the most advanced layering technology. It incorporates the philosophy of using multiple synergistic and scientific disciplines together in one service to maximize the results naturally and expeditiously. The layering concept allows for a more assertive and comprehensive service, as not all skin reacts the same to all technology. What is consistent about skin is its inconsistency, no two individuals are the same. Each client must have his or her own specific professional prescription, which in many cases may include 5 technologies used in harmony. We have savvy consumers in South Africa – they want longer lasting results, a different experience and value for money. BT delivers this all.

3. What makes this range unique to South African women?
Our climate and lifestyle is harsher than most countries and the sun is our biggest enemy, so cutting edge ingredients are key to preventing and reversing skin damage. South Africa has the most advanced skin care consumers in the world.

4. The bt-Cocktail is getting rave reviews in the industry. Tell us more about it.
This award winning product features ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) for cellular energy and moisture protection against harmful ozone damage. Clinical testing showed dramatic results of a 40% reduction in fine wrinkles plus a 70% reduction in deep wrinkles.

5. What are your top 5 anti-aging tips?

Focus on what you put in your body as much as what you put on your skin. The skin is the body’s largest organ, after all. So diet directly affects how you visibly age. The younger you start taking nutrients the better, especially omega 3 and 6 fatty acids.
Cut back on (or even better, cut out) processed foods and sugars (another reason to cut back on wine).
One word – sunblock! Use a full tablespoon of sunscreen with a sun-protection factor (SPF) of at least 30 on your face, spreading it to your neck and ears. Know that older skin tends to be more vulnerable to the effects of the sun than younger skin.Meet Lee Michelle O'Brien from Bio-Therapeutics - http://lipstickandleisure.com/
    Do not stress too much.
Practice yoga at least twice a week.

6. What is your opinion regarding injectable fillers like botox? Should they be considered as an added benefit to a good skincare regime?
Basically, the rationale for starting botox early is to prevent the permanent development of deep, inset wrinkles that will not go away if botox is started after this fact. Statistically, the average woman begins to show signs of facial aging around the age of 25. The first signs of aging in women are fine lines around the eyes (crow’s feet) and around the mouth. The “elevens” in the glabella between the eyebrows is common too. This is because women’s facial skin is thinner than men. Men have thicker skin and an increased blood supply to the skin of the face, which is necessary to support the growth of thick facial hair. Men age later, starting around age 30-32. When men age the wrinkles tend to be larger and thicker furrows. The strategic use of botox can be beneficial for both men and women.

7 . What are the most common mistakes women make when it comes to looking after their skin?
I would say incorrect skin analysis. Consumers buy skin care in retail stores at cosmetic counters and are often advised incorrectly as the sales staff are often not qualified skin therapists. Consumers are often sold expensive products that are not necessarily the best for their particular skin type. They are promised miracles and get disillusioned because their skin does not change. I would recommend that one finds a good skin care therapist and get a proper skin analysis. The therapists are qualified to prescribe a skin care regime that is personalised for the client. Once you are on the right product your skin will change. I would also recommend that the consumer include technology in their facials.
